We didn't get to go ziplining, alas. It wasn't up yet due to zoning issues or somesuch. So, we'll be going next year :D

PHOTO ALBUM CLICKY

But we did go for a 45 minute air tour, and rode a ferry over to washington island to see how people live in seclusion. Oh, and ostriches.

Thankfully, I was rescued by a #boat, trawling the depths for @s.

angel0886 9:54
Did the #boat find the elusive ^?

cactuar joe 9:54
Oh man, those things are the coelecanth of the typewriter symbol sea. You're lucky if you ever see one.

angel0886 9:54
^^;;
cactuar joe 9:55
Eventually our brains are just going to collapse under the weight of the nerdery going on here. :p
55:36
Probably some time after we start considering marine biologists studying the elusive ^fish and aaaargh aaargh my brains

angel0886 9:56
Maybe when we start talking about the only way to catch the elusive ^fish, the %bait.

cactuar joe 9:56
Of course, you have to use the right fishing rod: / or \ depending on your side of the boat.

angel0886 9:57
you might have to use an } if the thing won't come out from under your boat.

cactuar joe 9:57
Or a nice $ charge. Blow 'em out of the water! ^^b

angel0886 9:58
I'm partial to the œ myself.

Oh man, the explosive vowel dipthong. Those things are banned by the geneva convention.

Things they were saying in 1955

Posted on 2009.05.10 at 18:53
Feeling: amused
Mom sent this to me in an e-mail. It was funny.

Comments made in the year 1955!
That's only 53 years ago!

'I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.00.

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2, 000.00 will only buy a used one.

'If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. 25 cents a pack is ridiculous..

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 10 cents just to mail a letter

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.

'When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon.. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

'I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.

'Did you see 'I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas ..

where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now.

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.

'It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work.

'I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.

'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government.

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

'There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend, it costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

'No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $35.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.'

'If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.'

Isn't it done yet?

Feeling: drained
I am seriously getting sick of having to rely on unreliable group members in various classes to pull their goddamned weight. Case in point:

Marketing class. Our final project is worth 50% of our grade. We need to work in the groups we've been assigned to all semester. One is a procrastinator to the nth degree, but hey! at least he shows up to meetings and is there to bounce ideas off of. The other group member has one excuse after another for not showing up. She says someone called in sick at work and has to stay late so can't make it? Great. She also promises to send her portion of the stuff that she was supposed to have ready by that meeting? Perfect!

...We never got the second email. We haven't even heard from her since Tuesday. She hasn't been in class since LAST WEEK Tuesday. We did her work last night and essentially finished the project. There's a few things that need to be done yet... but nothing she can help with. I'm not waiting around for the last minute to finish this thing.

On top of this I have 3 major projects in one class left and there's only two weeks of class left, plus finals week. They should be fairly easy, provided I find the time to write them.

I have one other class where we're halfway through the experimental portion of our final project...which will hopefully be done next week so we can get the paper and presentation cracked out.

Is it May 15 yet? I want to go home and hibernate for the Summer. -.-

Oops! Did that hurt?

Kotaku Article on Voice Acting

How Dumbed Down Acting Is Creating Dumbed Down Games

Game voice acting throwing out the entire concept of acting? Huh, no wonder people hate video game voice actors in the US.

Snippet from the article:
There's an interesting story over at The Brainy Gamer that discusses the techniques of voice acting and how it rarely applies to voice acting in games, mostly because of time and money constraints.

Michael Abbott talked to a voice actor who explains how the typical tools of an actor aren't just disused, they're a hindrance for many game developers.

The problem, it seems, is that to deliver a believable performance an actor has to be able to understand the character they are voicing. They need to know the story and how their character fits into it. But time is money, and most studios, according at least to the actor interviewed, value first-take, final take actors over actors who want to develop a little more depth for their characters.

So... I've opted to join Twitter. If you haven't already seen.

I've also opted to protect my posts after getting assaulted by two spambots in the span of a week. I'll try to keep up on friend requests. Forgive me if I can't. Hell, spam my comments on this post if I don't notice you added me ^^b

Find me here:

Have me on facebook already? Probably will see majority of the same posts. Just not my reply posts, since it doesn't transfer those to facebook for obvious reasons :p

I'll still use LJ for winded thoughts. In fact, I intend to start using this more often than I have been this past year.

I find it annoying how, no matter how much sleep you get, the only sleep that actually counts toward overnight sleep and not a "nap" is the most recent sleep. I say this because I had to go to walmart at 1 AM last night to get something for my being...well...sick. I didn't get back to sleep til after 3 AM... and I had to get up around 6.

So now not only am I sick but sleep deprived :\

Sleeeeep

Feeling: cheerful
Spring break murdered my sleeping schedule. I was so tired yesterday that I vaguely remember setting a cell alarm for 30 minutes and falling asleep for a nap around 7ish....and the next thing I knew it was 10. I missed two phone calls and never heard the alarm. Which also meant I didn't get to sleep for the night until after midnight again. SO NOW THE CYCLE WILL REPEAT ITSELF.

Damn you spring break.

In other news, I have been itching to start writing again, but I keep getting starter ideas while I'm walking and have no access to paper, laptop, or anything. So by the time I do...the idea flits away never to be fully formed. Le sigh.

I might have to close my LJ down soon. It doesn't seem as popular as it used to be. But I just can't bring myself to use Twitter. Facebook is twitter enough.

In other news, I don't know how many of you saw this already, but:

I have decided that my LJ booklist was getting too hard to maintain. So I updated and transferred my Facebook virtual bookshelf to full blown Living Social account.

LivingSocial Virtual Book Shelf Here

Never thought I'd see the day my want to read would drop below 100. Wonder how long that'll last. (Especially since there's some authors who have books posted and announced that amazon, and thus living social, has no access to yet). Though I am reading more lately... who knows :)
